April Owen, Psy.D. is a clinical psychologist and gender therapist who obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology degree from Auburn University and her Master of Arts and Doctor of Psychology degrees in Clinical Psychology from the University of Denver. After working for/with national, state, and county government agencies for many years, Dr. Owen began her own private practice in 2013, where she provides therapy primarily to transgender and non-binary youth and adults. She also works as an adjunct faculty member in the Master of Arts in Counseling program at St. Edward’s University teaching a course entitled “LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy.” Dr. Owen has been consulted with as a subject matter expert on gender identity related issues, and has given numerous trainings to groups and organizations on how they can become more LGBTQ inclusive and affirming. She actively participates with multiple community non-profits including Out Youth, Leadership Austin, and the Girls Empowerment Network.
