Austin Sunshine Camps
The Young Men’s Business League of Austin (YMBL) operates the Austin Sunshine Camps. Founded in 1928, the Austin Sunshine Camp (ASC) is the major philanthropic endeavor of the Young Men’s Business League of Austin. ASC serves more than 800 low-income, high potential children every summer, and its Sunshine After school (begun in fall 2015) serves middle school students attending Fulmore and Martin middle schools in Austin ISD. The program brings 55 students to “camp” 5 days a week after school, on teacher in-service days and during spring break. Sunshine After school engages youth in STEM, life skills and outdoor education to prepare them for the challenges of high school and beyond.
The philanthropic arm of the Young Women’s Alliance (YWA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1997 to support women in the pursuit of their and career goals. Since 1997, YWAF has awarded $160,000+ in academic scholarships to over 70 young women in Central Texas. In addition, it has supported numerous Austin-area nonprofits – including Girlstart, Explore Austin, GENaustin, and Girl Scouts — with over $45,000 in community grants. This year YWAF is focusing its philanthropic efforts on Austin’s Dress for Success.
